Winter is here! Any need for a marquee?

We are not very busy at the moment; the hire season has ended really; however there is always a string of sales enquiries which continues to flow as small businesses look forward to planning next year's outdoor events.

Our suppliers are dropping their prices right now and there are some good marquees to be bought from us, such as the 6x10m Party-Tent for £799 incl VAT (+ delivery).

September and October are still very good months for garden parties with the colours in your garden often very attractive. Flowers are still blooming and then the golden colours of the foliage starts to appear signalling the beginnings of winter.

Having your holiday this month? Most people are! We find this is the best time for us to go away too; not too many people host parties when their friends are away, do they?

We're off to Austria, to Gosau in the lakes region. It makes a lovely change from Norfolk, all those massive mountains, they really are so big, and we hope to climb a few to relax at the top in one of the many hut restaurants with those stunning views down over the lakes and valleys.

April Report:
At last after that awful cold and prolonged winter spell we are feeling the benefits of the warmer weather. Yes! The phone is ringing with enquiries for availability, and requests for quotes on branded pop-up style marquees.

We sold a branded Instant Marquees to the National Trust (Colchester), and delivered it last week!

And we have had orders from old customers adding to their stock of marquees; Prestige Bars has such success with their four 3x6m tents for their mobile 40ft bar that they are having to operate in several places at the same time this year. They need more, which they will link together in various combinations - such versatility! Keep going!

Southend Council has recreated their logo and need to have the canopies and walls replaced. At least they had three years use out of the old ones. Still they will no doubt be used for other causes for many years to come. They are never obsolete!

Marquee hire is picking up at last; with the change of weather. It will probably be a bumper year as the great outdoors becomes so appealing after having been denied it for so long!

"Gosau Apartment"

Our news from Norfolk is that we have purchased a holiday apartment in the Austrian Alps. It is ideally located for both winter and summer holidays in the Salzkammergut region of lakes and mountains.

So now we can enjoy the seaside and the Broads here and then head for the massive mountains and beautiful scenery around the lakes over there!

Salzburg airport is under two hours away by plane, and the apartment in Gosau is only 45 minutes from the airport, which is very easy.
Gosau valley is hidden away beside the Dackstein mountain range to the west of Hallstatt, and its lake. It is beautiful with lush green grazing pastures with homes, a few businesses and hotels dotted about the village.

The apartment sleeps two in comfort, with a settee each, and is located within the 4-star Sporthotel which has many wonderful facilities including a good restaurant and bar, and free for our guests: an indoor pool and sauna, and ski-bus to the nearby cable cars to the 90+ pistes above. There's also 40kms of langlauf tracks passing close by.

Our south-west facing balcony (3rd floor) has a fantastic and extensive view down the valley to the ski slopes and the massive Dackstein at the end nearby. After a busy day it is a great place to relax listening to the cowbells and distant church bells, as the sun pours in.

All this is just 500m from the village shops, and the biking / hiking trails that disappear up around the glorious Gosausee (lake), reflecting the mountain peaks, and up into the mountains.
Gosau has a huge range of exciting activities on offer, including rafting, horse-riding, ice-caving, salt mine exploration, cog railway trips, fishing, boating, swimming, sight-seeing, as well as the local spa-health treatments offered in our hotel.

We think that this aparment would be the perfect destination for adventurous young honeymooners, but really it offers many absorbing activities for couples of any age.

The hotel has a lift service and the mountains have lifts that can take everyone up and away!

Rates are only £225 - £245 per week.

WHAT A YEAR IT HAS BEEN

One of the highlights of our year was the RACE FOR LIFE RELAY event held at Caister High School, on the coast, this summer.

It was an opportunity for those connected to a cancer casualty to join together with others and raise funds for Cancer Research. It also enabled the growing number of Survivors to show their appreciation to the charities that work so hard to fight for them.

Everyone took part with great enthusiasm, remembering their lost ones, and the work of researchers who're striving so hard to keep others alive.

Teams of fund-raising supporters circled the sports track in relays, from noon on Saturday, right through the night, and beyond dawn to the climax at 10am. They set up camps around the track and kept each other going.

For much of the time, entertainers held stage at the top of the field, to draw in crowds for additional support. Local dancing groups, singers, musicians and drama groups raised the spirits of those whose tired legs and heads were flagging, and a big effort was made by all.

We supplied several marquees, helped others with theirs, and housed the sound system, seen here behind the Mayor, Tony Smith and his wife, with MP Tony Wright, who opened the event.

And Carol, my partner, took part, too.

They raised £45,500 in total - a magnificent result, and hugely successful.

So far this 'summer' we have had few casualties to the weather storms that have ravaged our region. All our customers have eluded disaster, but of course they have had a marquee to save the day, anyway.

Some have had glorious sunshine and warm evenings and have entertained their friends and relatives without a single weather worry - having a marquee removes all concerns of that sort.

Others have had a sprinkling of rain, but because they had the option of shelter their party wasn't really inconvenienced at all.

Most of our business happens to be private family garden parties, but we've also supplied marquees for the Norfolk Show, and at charity events such as the Race4Life Relay in Caister.

Summertime - time to book your marquee!

We are well into the marquee season now having worked already with many happy event planners / party-givers around the region.

And many more, we hope!

Hasn't the weather been interesting... some hot sunny weekends we dream about, and some wet windy ones we hate. In every instance a marquee has given the occasion a special atmosphere as well as providing shelter for the elderly or yougsters, in particular.

We have worked with Sports Tours to provide an HQ for the Lowestoft based football tournament, with a Beccles B&B for a fund-raising Day, with a nature reserve for a weekend event in Halesworth.

Our main work however, is to provide garden party marquees; so far we've had a 60th birthday celebration in both Saxtead and Harleston, a 70th in Woodbridge, and a home-coming for a gap year student's family in Belton.

We have several show tents to take to the Norfolk Show to look forward to, as well as more garden parties in Worlingham (3rd year running), Hoo (18th B'day), Gorleston (local at last!) and Halesworth and Harleston again.
