Our news from Norfolk is that we have purchased a holiday apartment in the Austrian Alps. It is ideally located for both winter and summer holidays in the Salzkammergut region of lakes and mountains.

So now we can enjoy the seaside and the Broads here and then head for the massive mountains and beautiful scenery around the lakes over there!

Salzburg airport is under two hours away by plane, and the apartment in Gosau is only 45 minutes from the airport, which is very easy.
Gosau valley is hidden away beside the Dackstein mountain range to the west of Hallstatt, and its lake. It is beautiful with lush green grazing pastures with homes,  a few businesses and hotels dotted about the village. 

The apartment sleeps two in comfort, with a settee each, and is located within the 4-star Sporthotel which has many wonderful facilities including a good restaurant and bar, and free for our guests: an indoor pool and sauna, and ski-bus to the nearby cable cars to the 90+ pistes above. There's also 40kms of langlauf tracks passing close by.

Our south-west facing balcony (3rd floor) has a fantastic and extensive view down the valley to the ski slopes and the massive Dackstein at the end nearby. After a busy day it is a great place to relax listening to the cowbells and distant church bells, as the sun pours in.

All this is just 500m from the village shops, and the biking / hiking trails that disappear up around the glorious Gosausee (lake), reflecting the mountain peaks, and up into the mountains.
Gosau has a huge range of exciting activities on offer, including rafting, horse-riding, ice-caving, salt mine exploration, cog railway trips, fishing, boating, swimming, sight-seeing, as well as the local spa-health treatments offered in our hotel.

We think that this aparment would be the perfect destination for adventurous young honeymooners, but really it offers many absorbing activities for couples of any age.

The hotel has a lift service and the mountains have lifts that can take everyone up and away!

WHAT A YEAR IT HAS BEEN

One of the highlights of our year was the RACE FOR LIFE RELAY event held at Caister High School, on the coast, this summer.

It was an opportunity for those connected to a cancer casualty to join together with others and raise funds for Cancer Research. It also enabled the growing number of Survivors to show their appreciation to the charities that work so hard to fight for them.

Everyone took part with great enthusiasm, remembering their lost ones, and the work of researchers who're striving so hard to keep others alive.

Teams of fund-raising supporters circled the sports track in relays, from noon on Saturday, right through the night, and beyond dawn to the climax at 10am. They set up camps around the track and kept each other going.

For much of the time, entertainers held stage at the top of the field, to draw in crowds for additional support. Local dancing groups, singers, musicians and drama groups raised the spirits of those whose tired legs and heads were flagging, and a big effort was made by all.

We supplied several marquees, helped others with theirs, and housed the sound system, seen here behind the Mayor, Tony Smith and his wife, with MP Tony Wright, who opened the event.

And Carol, my partner, took part, too.

They raised £45,500 in total - a magnificent result, and hugely successful.
